Superb Diving On The Doorstep!

Having just returned from our most recent weekend dive trip, it is lovely to sit and reflect on the amazing dives we all experienced.

St Abbs, on the Scottish borders, is world renowned for its beautiful scenery, both topside and underwater. Most divers will have heard of Cathedral Rock, from TV if not personally.

Our dives are off Shore Diver, with skipper Paul mixing up the serious dive briefings with his usual Scots humour and banter. He makes a great cuppa post dive too, always welcome.

Water temperatures were lovely, making hoods and gloves a personal choice rather than necessary. Most importantly the visibility was spectacular, best we have had for many a season.

One of the biggest pleasures on our trips is seeing recently qualified divers, who have just completed their PADI Open Water Courses, taking it to the next level and loving being out in the open ocean.

This trip was full of newbies who all proved themselves more than capable of coping and enjoying UK conditions.

Highlight this trip was Skelly hole and then onto the Skelly`s. Absolutely beautiful reef with masses of brilliant white sponges and corals. The whole group came back buzzing with sightings of the usual crab and lobster, halibut, wrasse, shoals of pollack, ling, octopus, a variety of different starfish, scorpion fish and a specialty of the area, the wolf-fish. More than enough to keep everyone happily occupied during the dive.

After each dive it is a short blast back to the harbour for refreshments, a quick air-fill and prepare for the next dive.

Our visit for August 2024 is already booked. Check out the Events page and give us a call (0114 233 2995) to secure your place on this or any other DIVEWORLD trip.

Enjoy the best of UK diving with DIVEWORLD.

"I fell in love with scuba watching Jacques Cousteau's Silent World on TV in the 70's.

Originally learned to dive with BSAC prior to BCD's and balanced regulators, relearning with PADI was a revelation, modern equipment makes scuba so easy for everyone.

No favourite scuba pastimes, love it all, if pushed wrecks are a stand out pleasure underwater. Became an instructor in 2003 and have crept up the instructor ladder steadily as the need arose within the dive centre.

Biggest pleasure is introducing new divers to the delights of the underwater world and sharing their new experiences with them."

Most enjoyable part of being a PADI Member is that there are new innovations appearing almost daily so there is always something new to learn and explore.
